About FutureFit

FutureFit is a project working with over 200 Affinity Sutton
homes and residents delivering combinations of low carbon
refurbishment works and energy lifestyle advice.
The UK is legally required to reduce its total carbon
emissions by 80% by 2050, with an interim target of 34% by
2020.
The aim of FutureFit is to prepare the business and our partners
for meeting the challenge of greening the wider social housing
stock.

More than a quarter of the UK’s
carbon emissions come from our homes. The vast majority of homes
that will be standing in 2050 have already been built, and this
means retrofitting (low carbon refurbishment) will be needed on a
large scale.

FutureFit is not a ‘one-off’ or show home project, and it
doesnot focus on individual technologies or achieving the highest
carbon reduction possible regardless of cost. Instead, it
drills down into the practicalities of delivering low carbon
retrofit to the social housing stock on a wide scale, looking at
the obstacles and identifying solutions.
The project has used three budgets to produce
three different packages of works that were applied
across 102 homes - low (£6,500), medium (£10,000)
and high (£25,000). This means that after a year's monitoring
period we will be able to identify what energy savings can actually
be achieved for the investment. In addition to these works, a
further group of homes is engaged in FutureFit Living, the second
part of FutureFit which is delivering a year-long programme of
energy lifestyle advice. So at the end of the project we will be
able to find out the impact of different combinations of
retrofit works and lifestyle advice.
The aim is to develop our knowledge and experience of
successfully delivering retrofit and energry lifestyle advice, and
prepare the whole business for the challenge that faces us.
