Utilities - when you first move in

Take your meter readings
Don’t forget to take your
meter readings (water, gas, electricity) before you leave your old
property and inform your supplier(s) of the readings.
Without an accurate reading, the
supplier will estimate how much energy you have used, so you could
owe more than you need to.
As soon as you move into your new
home, take a note of the meter readings. You will also need to find
out who the current energy suppliers are and register that you are
the new customer.

Find out who your energy supplier is
for your new home
The easiest way to find out who
supplies your electricity and gas is to ask the letting agent,
landlord or the previous tenant.
Often, if the previous tenant has told
the supplier(s) they’re moving, you will be sent a letter,
addressed to ‘The Occupier’ with their details.
If this information isn’t available
you may need to contact your
local electricity distribution company (you can also
find this by looking under ‘electricity’ in the phonebook) to find
out who supplies the electricity to your property. To find out who
your gas supplier is, call the Meter Point Administration Service
line on 0870 608 1524.
