Fernleigh Court planting day

Sheila King, Housing officer and Steve McGlen, NIO, have been supporting residents of Fernleigh Court, led by David McMurdo, to create a vegetable plot within the communal grounds. Participants have ranged from toddlers and young mums to a 91 year old ex groundsman at Lords.

Gardening experts from The Garden House, Brighton were on hand to give advice about planting seasonal vegetables, fruit and salad.

A composting area has been created to encourage recycling and to make it easier to dispose of the green waste.

Earlier this year, the residents benefitted from other grants to provide a new greenhouse and raised bed and are hoping that water butts can be provided to keep their crops watered.
