Makuwerere Day

IMakawerere Day - Barne Barton

Celebrating difference in Barne Barton

On 20th May 2011 in Barne Barton, Makuwerere Day saw around 70 local adults and children enjoy the sound, taste and feel of something different! Children from the local nursery had an amazing time listening to African story telling, music and song, alongside other local parents/carers and children. The children sang in a different language and made lots of noise with instruments from across the globe.

Trying to break the record for the number of people in the camper obscura – Barne Barton came in a close second with 11 people at once! But to see the faces on the children as they saw their school from inside a dark camper van on a large white board on their laps, would have made even the toughest of people smile. What a way to experience their surroundings – in such a unique and diverse way!

The morning ended with a colourful buffet of world foods, which everybody really enjoyed!!

This project was delivered by Barefoot, Plymouth’s Art Education Agency in partnership with Fotonow, Tamarview Community Centre, and Riverside Primary School.
