Bancroft Eco-fit
Green and fitter futures
Bancroft Community Centre is adapting to create a more green and
fitter future thanks to several successful grant applications.
The centre won a £50,000 grant from The Big Lottery’s People’s
Millions which along with £5000 from Affinity Sutton is being used
to convert the old estate office and workshop into a community gym.
This gym conversion is part of the associations ‘Fitter Futures’
project which aims to make a healthier lifestyle affordable to the
local community. The conversion work is well underway and is
scheduled to be completed later this year.
They also got a cash boost from the Coalfields
Regeneration Trust to renovate the building with eco-friendly
systems including solar panels, energy efficient radiators, low
energy lighting, new insulation and a heat recovery system. The
solar panels generate enough energy to provide electricity and hot
water. Surplus energy can then be sold back to the power company.
The heat recovery system and insulation has improved the centres
heating efficiency and help reduce costs.
