Building communities
Building tomorrow's communities today

With 1.8 million households on council waiting lists for
rented accommodation and the national average house price
increasingly out of reach for many, we are working hard to provide
housing which meets a range of needs.
While house building overall in England has
declined by over 50% in the past two years and many housing
associations have reduced development activity or been forced to
stop altogether, we have maintained an active and varied
development programme.
Developing new homes
We completed 786 new homes during the year and
started 1,239 new homes in 40 local authority areas. At the year
end we had 2,946 homes either on site or approved to start.
Our completed homes include 477 for affordable
renting and 309 built to be sold, mostly through affordable shared
ownership schemes. We sold 352 of our new properties, an increase
of 15% on the previous year.
We secured allocations from the Homes and Communities Agency of
£150 million and we exceeded all our targets, making us a top
quartile performer in all programme categories.
