“I joined the business in a customer service position, and I’ve always had a passion for the sector as I live in social housing myself. That means that I really recognise the great things that Affinity Sutton does for its residents and its passion for continually looking to better that service to be the best it could be.

I didn’t actually get the job I went for the first time I applied. But I did receive very constructive feedback on my application and interview, and the next time a similar role came up, I felt far better prepared and I got the job.

That was seven years ago now and I haven’t looked back! What’s great about Affinity Sutton is that I feel I’ve grown with the company during that time. Like me many colleagues also started in the customer service department and worked their way up – it provides the ideal grounding in frontline issues.

Within my part of the business we manage properties thought out England. My team is responsible for 1700 shared ownership properties.  There are many different aspects to the job, from liaising with building contractors over maintenance jobs to dealing with the small print of contracts and explaining the costs of building improvements to shared owners. We also deal with re-sales, Right to Buy, Right to Acquire and staircasing.

In straightforward terms, my role is to ensure our shared owners are happy with their homes and the service we give them. Customer satisfaction has risen in the time I’ve been in the role which makes my role that much more rewarding to know that you’re making a difference and improving the lives of so many people.

Along the way I’ve taken a number of courses and qualifications. I’m now a member of the Institute of Residential Property Managers and I’ve recently passed the Leadership in Action Programme.

Everyone has the opportunity to get on here - The only person who limits you is yourself. Colleagues believe in you and support you. And when it comes to qualifications, you are given the necessary time out to prepare for exams and get your coursework done. The conditions and rewards are pretty good too!

Colleagues and managers are highly supportive here and there’s very much an open door policy. You find people want to help each other and deal with issues together. Your ideas are never shot down or ignored - they may not always be used, but you’re still encouraged to contribute next time.”

But don’t take my word for it!
