“I was first interested in Affinity Sutton as I was keen to work within a socially responsible business – at the time I didn’t know that much about housing or the housing sector itself but if you have a passion for customer services and real desire to make a difference you don’t need to have a background in the sector to do well here.

In the two years since I joined Affinity Sutton, I’ve moved up through a series of positions. My initial role focused on office management at our London Head office, which gave me a comprehensive introduction to the business as a whole.

After six months I joined the Company Secretariat in a support role. That led on to the Assistant Company Secretary position, which saw me take on a range of duties from servicing board meetings and committees to working on equality and diversity policies. I also acted as Data Protection Officer during part of that time, so when the Strategic Projects opportunity came up, it seemed like an excellent step up in responsibility.

My development has always been encouraged.  Your progress is assessed every 4-6 weeks in a 1-2-1 meeting with your manager. You’re given the training and educational opportunities to make the most of each role. I start a Masters in Voluntary and Community Sector Studies in October, which I’m taking on a part-time basis with the full support of the organisation.

Every team has a link to the frontline and even in a head office role like mine you see the impact of your work.”
