Projects
Bring your idea to life
Here are a couple of examples of projects that
have been set up through DIY fundraising.
Bancroft Community Association, Tamworth

Bancroft Community Association are a
registered charity and used the old estate manager’s house as a
community building.
Holding youth groups, IT classes and meetings
it was soon too small and inadequate for their needs.
They were given a 25 year lease on the
building by William Sutton Homes which allowed them to apply
successfully for a grant of £244,000 from Coalfields Regeneration
Trust. The grant was used to create the purpose built community
centre completed in early 2009. The centre was also fitted with
solar photo voltaic panels which will save them money on their
utility bills.

Sutton Trust Community Group, Stoke on Trent

Sutton Trust Community Group received in
excess of £300,000 to create a community garden in Abbey Hulton.
The Community Garden opened in 2008 and has a classroom on site as
well as a large wildlife area together with a range of fruit,
vegetables and flowers being grown.
The community group were successful in
applying to big funders such as the National Lottery, Coalfields
Regeneration Trust and Barclays Bank. This meant they were able to
create a large community space that is widely used by the
community.
As part of a regeneration programme taking
place, Stoke City Council also supported the project and the garden
was named after Betty Rushton, a resident who had the vision and
drive to make the idea of a community garden a reality.
The community group, made up of
volunteers now sell fruit and vegetables and flowers from the
garden and reinvest the money to make improvements to the
garden.
