Volunteer of the year

2011 Joint winners: Pauline Andrews from Southampton and
Maureen Ward from Beckenham
Pauline's story
Pauline moved to Southampton ten years ago to
be nearer her ill sister. Since then she has become the volunteer
‘nurse, carer and cleaner’ to a number of her fellow neighbours who
are unable to do these things for themselves.
No request is too big or small for Pauline. As
well as doing people’s washing and ironing, she also shops for her
neighbours and helps to organise the bingo and inhouse clubs.
At the age of 80, Pauline shows no signs of
slowing down and continues to care for her neighbours and others
who need her help.

Maureen's story
Maureen is 81 years old and helps all whether
they are young or old. She prepares dinners and teas, goes shopping
for them and looks after those in need.
When one lady broke her hip, Maureen went to
see her every day to help her. She makes over 100 teas a week at
the local OAP centre and also does a weekly paper round, delivering
the New Shopper to all residents.
Maureen is a true inspiration to her
neighbours.
