Mayor joins Lewisham
celebrations
The Mayor of Lewisham Sir Steve Bullock joined residents
at two events recently to celebrate the successful regeneration of
the Orchard Gardens Estate and Woodville Close in South East
London.
Amongst the improvements were 102 new kitchens and as well
as new energy efficient boilers, roof and wall insulation and new
double glazed windows.
In July 2008 more than 92% of tenants voted in favour of a
stock transfer from Lewisham Council and chose Affinity Sutton as
their new landlord.
The regeneration works, completed eight months early, also
include new paths, fencing, planting, signs and external
decorations. Security has also been improved on the estate
with the installation of new entry phone systems and privacy
gates.
Sir Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham, said: “Lewisham
Council believes it is absolutely right and proper that residents
should choose who improves the standard of their homes.
Residents on the estate were responsible for initiating and leading
on the transfer process and the fact that work has completed on the
decent homes programme well ahead of schedule shows they were right
to put their trust in Affinity Sutton as their new
landlord.
“The work has been done to a high standard and I am
delighted that many more residents in Lewisham are now enjoying
their new kitchens and bathrooms and will benefit from better
insulation and warmer homes come the winter months.”
