Flash Ahhhh...
Well done to the young people of FLASH who held a photography
exhibition at Plymouth University on Thursday 26 May.
FLASH came about as a direct result of South West RAP members
identifying youth involvement as one of their six local
priorities. The project gave young people the opportunity to gain
new skills and be at the forefront of bringing about positive
improvements to the communities in which they live.
Through engagement in the project young people recorded their
likes and dislikes on and around the St Budeaux and Barne Barton
areas of Plymouth using digital cameras. After taking these
photographs, sessions were run looking at:
- Why did we take that particular photo?
- What is it that we do/don't like?
- What could turn a dislike into a like?
Young people were then supported to work through how they
might be able to turn their 'likes' into 'dislikes' and which
people or organisations they might need to speak to to
make that happen.
These findings were presented alongside their chosen photographs
at the exhibition. Young people invited Affinity Sutton staff along
with local politicians and other influential members of the police,
school and community.
Alison Seabeck MP commented; "Really
impressive photos and young people – can’t wait to see their next
project. This should happen in other areas too."
