Long wait for home is over
Long wait for home is over
A LANDMARK £4 million affordable housing scheme boasting
panoramic views across London is helping Islington families get off
the housing waiting list.
Lygoe House and 11-storey Oval Point provide 27 new homes all
for rent in Hornsey Lane, Islington, N6.
Developed by affordable housing provider
Affinity Sutton and designed by award winning architects PTea -
Oval Point is a uniquely designed oval shape apartment block with
each of the 21 flats providing stunning views of the city and
Alexandra Palace. There are also six refurbished maisonettes
on the site which form part of the existing Lygoe House.
Mum-of-four Tracey Daniel was one of the first
to move into one of the three bedroom maisonettes, which also have
a family-friendly back garden, after ten years on the housing list
waiting for a bigger home.
Ms Daniels, who previously lived in a
two-bedroom flat on the nearby Andover Estate with her four sons
and partner, is delighted with the extra space.
She said: “I absolutely love it here and
it has made such a difference to our quality of life. We’re
not all on top of each other and there’s so much more space.
It is luxury and was well worth the wait.”
Sue Cooper, Head of Housing (London) for
Affinity Sutton, said: "We’re committed to tackling the housing
shortage and providing well-designed, desirable homes in places
that people want to live.”
Cllr Barbara Smith, Executive Member for
Housing and Community Safety, Islington Council, who was given a
guided tour around residents’ new homes said: "We are delighted to
have such high quality additions to the homes in Islington
available for rent. Social housing deserves good architecture.*
"Schemes such this and the Council's own new
build programme are increasing the supply of new homes and assist
our commitment to tackle overcrowding."
