Graylingwell Park scoops two awards
Double award success for UK's largest carbon neutral
development

Graylingwell Park has won 'Best
Low or Zero Carbon Initiative' at the Housebuilder Awards
hot on the heels of winning the 'Sustainable Large Social
Housing Project of the Year' at Inside Housing magazine’s
Sustainable Housing Awards.
The Chichester-based development will be the UK’s largest
carbon neutral scheme.
Graylingwell Park’s superb credentials as the UK’s largest
carbon neutral development have been applauded at both the
Housebuilder and the Sustainable Housing Awards.
The flagship development in the heart of Chichester scooped the
top title as ‘Best Low or Zero Carbon Initiative’ at the
Housebuilder Awards just a week after winning ‘Sustainable
Larger Social Housing Project of the Year 2010’ at Inside Housing
Magazine’s Sustainable Housing Awards.
The joint project by Affinity Sutton, Linden
Homes and the Homes & Communities Agency is transforming
an 85-acre former hospital site less than a mile from Chichester
city centre into a new destination and much sought after
residential address.
The scheme, set in a parkland setting, will
offer 750 new and converted homes when complete, including 300
affordable homes, along with community amenities including artists’
studios, allotments for residents to grow their own food, a farm
shop, gallery space and creative business office space, all managed
by a Community Development Trust. It is estimated the scheme will
create around 200 jobs for local people.
Some 622 mature trees have been retained and
1428 new trees, including fruit trees, are being planted at the
scheme. Residents are encouraged to make the most of cycle routes
and car clubs provided to preserve this ‘green’
environment.
Many of the new homes, designed by architects John Thompson
& Partners, have photovoltaic roof panels and high levels of
insulation. Heating is provided by a central heating and power
plant, all appliances are energy efficient and the homes are
expected to use around a third less water than usual, keeping
energy bills to a minimum. The scheme will meet net zero carbon for
the whole development, Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4, Code 6
for Energy, and EcoHomes Excellent on all refurbished
buildings.
Mark Perry, Commercial Director of Affinity Sutton, comments:

limitless environment for a diverse and vibrant
