London Mayoral Election

G15 - London's leading housing associations

Ahead of the London Mayoral elections in May, The Times has published a joint letter from David Orr, Chief Executive of the National Housing Federation, Rob Campbell, Chief Executive of Shelter and Keith Exford, Chair of G15 Group.

19 April 2012

Housing has hardly figured in the debate in the run-up to London's mayoral election, now only a fortnight away, yet this is an issue that affects every Londoner.

From May, devolution of land and budgets to the mayor's control means that the next mayor will have unprecedented power to build the homes the capital desperately needs.

It is time the candidates started telling us where they will begin. The thousands of families looking for an affordable home, or priced out of ownership, or struggling to hang on to their home, or paying up to half their income in rent deserve to hear real solutions, not throwaway comments.
