New look £150K Community Hub to open its doors

Circus skills, street dancing and a bouncy castle are part of the celebrations to mark the opening of a new £150,000 community facility in Borehamwood.

National affordable housing provider Affinity Sutton has invested more than £150,000 to transform the Farriers Community Centre, on Farriers Way, into a new look Community Hub.

The centre has been closed for five months while builders got to work on extensive structural works including a new roof, kitchen and bathroom, internal decoration and a new secure IT suite.  The grand opening will take place on Saturday 13 August 12.30- 4pm.

The refurbishment is part of Affinity Sutton’s national community hub programme which is part of a wider network of hubs across the country all receiving significant investment from Affinity Sutton.

The hub will also provide accredited training courses, help with budgeting and courses designed to help get people back into work.  There will also be volunteering opportunities available for residents on the estate and the wider community.

Matthew Parsonage, Head of Neighbourhood Investment for Affinity Sutton, which has around 5000 homes in Hertsmere, said:  “We hope that Farriers Community Centre will become a real ‘hub’ of the community.  We want the facility to be well used by all ages for a wide range of activities for a long time to come – everything from helping people get back into work through CV workshops to IT courses.  We also want to expand the services we have on offer and are keen to work with other local partners”.

Local partners have been invited to help celebrate the hub’s grand opening including Community Action Hertsmere, Vibe Youth project, CBS, Apollo, the police, fire brigade, Youth Connexions and Hertsavers Credit Union.
