First Base is a structured programme of support for young people aged 18-25 to ensure they have the skills needed to manage and maintain their tenancies and to create a safe and secure home.
Assistance is provided in a number of ways and includes:
- Intensive visits at the start (i.e. weekly) which reduce as the resident becomes more settled
- Developing milestones and rewards, e.g. for a clear rent account, no ASB, getting involved, work and/or training
- Signposting to support, e.g. Ready2Work
The programme was developed in response to the increasing number of young people who we are now letting homes to, many of whom are leaving care, have children of their own, or come from families that also live in social housing.
We are serious about safeguarding and securing our tenants of the future.
Initially piloted in Bromley, the scheme is now being
